Stay safe this summer with CPR training!

Summertime is a time of fun and sun, but it also brings an increased trauma rate. In fact, according to the National Safety Council, summer is the deadliest time of year for people who are injured in accidents. That's why it's important to be prepared for accidents and know how to properly respond if one does happen.

The best way to stay safe is to prevent accidents from ever happening, but if one does happen, know how to respond. Here are some tips to help you stay safe this summer:

First, if you're not comfortable with CPR or providing first aid, don't try to do it on your own. Go to a class or get certified through an organization like Do CPR. Once you learn the proper technique, you can practice on dolls or stuffed animals before actually doing it for real. You'll feel more prepared and confident once you've practiced a few times.

Stay Cool And Collected when Accidents Happen: When you're involved in or witness an accident, it's important to stay cool and collected. Don't panic and think through the steps you need to take to get the person help. Try to follow these guidelines:

Check for danger: Make sure you won't get hurt or further hurt someone else before attempting to help.

Check to see if anyone is hurt: Make sure the person has stopped breathing. If the person is still breathing, then lay him or her flat and perform chest compressions. If not, start rescue breathing (mouth-to-mouth) immediately, and then begin chest compressions if the person does not respond.

Call for help: If needed, call 911 to get help to the scene as soon as possible.

Stay calm and focused: If you're injured, stay calm and do not move until help arrives. If you're helping someone you don't feel steady around, approach from a safe distance and ask how you can help without getting too close.

All Do CPR classes are taught by a credentialed provider who guides you through the steps to perform CPR and how to recognize an emergency so you can step in and help. You can even take part of your class online at home!
